- Ms. van der Merwe joins Letshego with a wealth of experience in financial services, having held senior leadership roles across banking institutions in Botswana and South Africa. Her appointment follows successful vetting and approval by the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA).
- Reinette van der Merwe is a seasoned executive with over 30 years of experience in banking and financial services, including regional leadership roles.
- She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree, an Honours in Accounting from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, is a qualified Chartered Accountant CA (SA), a member of the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) and holds a Master of Commerce (M.Comm) degree.
- Reinette’s career spans several high-profile roles, having served as Chief Executive Officer of First Capital Bank Botswana and Managing Director of Barclays Bank Botswana (now Absa Bank Botswana). She has previously held several senior positions at Absa Africa Group.
- Her credentials include a track record of strategic transformation and stakeholder engagement as well as proven leadership in financial operations and governance. Letshego, under her leadership, is expected to further strengthen its inclusive finance mission.
