The Board of Directors of the Company (“Board”) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Reinette Estelle van der Merwe as the Group Chief Executive Officer for Letshego Africa Holdings Limited (LAHL), effective 1st October 2025.
Ms. van der Merwe joins Letshego with a wealth of experience in financial services, having held senior leadership roles across banking institutions in Botswana and South Africa. Her appointment follows successful vetting and approval by the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA).
Ms. Reinette van der Merwe is a seasoned executive with over 30 years of experience in banking and financial services, including regional leadership roles. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree, an Honours in Accounting from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, is a qualified Chartered Accountant CA (SA), a member of the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) and holds a Master of Commerce (M.Comm) degree.
Ms. van der Merwe’s career spans several high-profile roles, including serving as CEO of First Capital Bank Botswana and Managing Director of Barclays Bank Botswana (now Absa Bank Botswana). She has previously held senior positions at Absa Africa Group.
Her credentials include a track record of strategic transformation and stakeholder engagement as well as proven leadership in financial operations and governance.
Letshego, under her leadership, is expected to further strengthen its inclusive finance mission.

The Board of Directors extends its sincere appreciation to Mr. Brighton Banda for the exemplary leadership and commitment demonstrated while serving as Interim Group Chief Executive Officer from February 2025. Mr. Banda’s stewardship during this transitional period has been instrumental in maintaining strategic continuity and operational stability. The Board acknowledges and values the significant contributions made and expresses its gratitude for the dedication to the Company’s mission and values.
